The anti-corruption efforts have taken a prominent role in the agenda for development cooperation everywhere. Corruption is a serious problem in the poorer countries to a degree that it has become an obstacle for development and eradication of poverty. For many years Danish development assistance has actively supported anti-corruption efforts, primarily through good governance programmes. In 2003 Danida launched an action plan in order to make anti-corruption efforts an integrated part of our development cooperation. The overall target of the action plan is to fight and prevent corruption within Danida's own organisation as well as in programmes and projects where Danida is involved, and more generally in the partner countries that we assist. The action plan entails a number of specific activities, including training of our own staff on how to combat corruption. In Kathmandu all embassy staff and Danida advisors have gone through this training programme. An essential part of this is an Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct that clearly spells out where Danida stands when it comes to corruption. For further information, please download the Danida Anti-Corruption Action Plan, the Code of Conduct available in both English and Nepali and a guide to the Code of Conduct (see the links in the right pane).
